OLDS — The Town of Olds has announced a new interim chief executive officer for O-NET: Peter Taylor, former senior vice-president and chief information officer of Shaw Communications.

O-NET, which provides high-speed internet, phone and TV service, is a municipally-controlled corporation by the Town of Olds and is in partnership with Calgary-based FourNetworks and Nation Fiber Corp.

As of at least late June, Matthew Anderson was its chief operating officer.

A news release announcing Taylor’s appointment was issued by the Town of Olds on Oct. 23.

“The appointment of Taylor brings a wealth of experience as a senior business executive, board member, and technology leader,” the release said.

“A priority for the incoming interim CEO is to accelerate the transition to the new ESPIAL TV platform.”

The new cloud-based TV platform will allow consumers to obtain their service on any device, from TV to phone or tablet.

"This move is expected to resolve persistent issues that have affected television service and deliver a more stable and satisfying user experience to O-NET clients.”

O-NET and the Town announced the move to the new platform last spring, saying it was expected to occur by last summer.

In August, Brent Williams, the town’s chief administrative officer, announced that the new platform was being tested with some customers this fall. He said it was hoped that within several weeks, “the full implementation will be open to everyone.”

“The anticipated outcome under this new leadership is clear and fundamental: to resolve ongoing issues and improve services the community of users rely on every day,” the release said.

“O-NET's board of directors will actively review leadership roles and responsibilities to ensure an effective, agile, and accountable organization.

“The team at O-NET is committed to taking concrete action to bring about these improvements and will keep the public updated on its progress.”
