There are a few odds and ends to finish but otherwise the new Holy Trinity School is ready to serve Olds and the 80 students who will begin attending classes in the Catholic school on Sept. 1.

The new 30,000-sq.-ft. institution, located in the southwest corner of town in the Highlands subdivision development and costing between $4 and $6 million to complete, will serve students from pre-kindergarten to Grade 7. The school will grow by one grade a year until a Grade 9 program is implemented.

“It has been a busy summer, and exciting. We want to welcome everyone to the school whether they have children attending or not,” said principal Blake Krause, whose school previously operated at a temporary location downtown for one school year. “It is a multi-million-dollar facility and I hope community groups book events in our gymnasium and classes.”

He said the final touches are still being made on the school, which has been under construction since January 2010, and the road leading up to the school is in the process of being paved. Krause emphasized that while development is still ongoing around the school the institution's grounds are safely separate from where construction is occurring.

Krause said all parents and children have the option of using the bus system offered by Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools. The buses will drop off students at the school's south door. If parents want to drive their children to school they will be able to drop them off in front of the school.

If parents want to make arrangements for the children to be bused they can call the school board's transportation department at 403-309-8801. Parents can also get more information at the school's website at www.holytrinity.rdcrd.ab.ca

The school will host a grand opening for the Olds community on Sept. 21.

Meanwhile, Olds RCMP is reminding motorists that school zones are in effect. Police will be watching for speeding vehicles at crosswalks.
