People from Bowden and beyond can now search for the location of loved ones buried in the Bowden and District Cemetery using a new online database. The Town of Bowden launched the database earlier this month and the tool allows users to find people buried in the cemetery using a last name or plot number.Coupled with the search tool is an online list of people buried in the cemetery that includes, for most people on the list, the date and place of death, the date they were interred at the cemetery and the person's plot number.Andy Weiss, the town's chief administrative officer, said the town purchased software about two years ago to compile and digitize information about people buried at the cemetery.Previously, he added, town staff were plotting such information by hand on a map.For more than a year, Weiss said, a town committee that oversees the cemetery has been talking about the potential of having information on people buried at the cemetery available online. So town staff carried out the development of the online search feature and database with volunteers assisting with data entry.Weiss said there were few costs associated with the project beyond staff time and he did not have any traffic numbers for people using the tool so far.The database and search tool can be found at http://www.windsorgraphics.ca/cgi-bin/bowden/[email protected]
