OLDS — The École Olds High School drama club has postponed presentation of the musical You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown to at least February, due to new COVID-19 restrictions.
The musical had been set to run Dec. 4, 5 and 6 and again Dec. 10, 11 and 12 at the TransCanada Theatre.
But new COVID-19 restrictions, announced Nov. 24, forced the postponement, said drama teacher and show producer Rhonda West. She said tickets that have been purchased for the show will be honoured when it is presented.
Starting Friday, Nov. 27, new restrictions include the closure of concert venues, conference centres, and banquet halls.
West said in case the restrictions run well into the new year, organizers have booked dates at the TransCanada Theatre all the way into May.
“We’re just going to play it one day at a time," said West.
Shortly after the new restrictions were announced, West began receiving emails from concerned students wondering about the future of the show.
“They’re hugely disappointed – only because we’ve done so much work. We were so close,” she said. “But also I think the silver lining is it’s not cancelled, it is only postponed.”
Another silver lining is that postponement of the show gives the approximately 20-member cast of students in grades 10 to 12 more opportunities to hone their roles, she said.
“This is just giving us more time to make it even better than it is,” she said.
West planned to meet with the cast to discuss the situation “just to see how everyone’s doing.”
