OLDS – When the Carolina Hurricanes hit the ice Friday in the team’s first National Hockey League regular season game of the 2024-25 season, a former Olds hockey player will not be on the ice with them.

Ronan Seeley, 22, has been sent back to the minors after surviving the Carolina Hurricanes training camp nearly to the end.

Eric Tulsky, general manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, announced on Sunday, Oct. 6 that the team had trimmed its roster to 25 players.

Seeley was among 15 players at training camp that day who were assigned back to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL) by the NHL team.

He was the Carolina Hurricanes’ seventh-round (208th overall) selection in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

Seeley was recalled from the Chicago Wolves in April to play with the Carolina Hurricanes as the team remained one win away from advancing to the second round of NHL 2023-24 playoffs.

Since being drafted, he has played in the American Hockey League with the Chicago Wolves and in the ECHL with the Norfolk Admirals.

As a youth, he played minor hockey in Olds, moving on to play with the Red Deer Rebels U15 AAA, Lethbridge Hurricanes U18 AAA and the WHL's Everett Silvertips before joining the Chicago Wolves.

Carolina further trimmed its roster, now icing 22 players for its first regular season game Oct. 11 on home ice against Tampa Bay Lightning.

NHL Game No. 29 on Saturday, Oct. 12 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes at Amalie Arena has been postponed amid recovery efforts in the Tampa Bay area from the impact of Hurricane Milton.

A makeup date will be announced as soon as it can be confirmed.
