OLDS — Due to new provincial COVID-19 restrictions, from now until at least Jan. 12, all town council meetings as well as meetings by any town-managed authorities, boards, committees and commissions will be held electronically.
Council made that decision during its Nov. 30 meeting.
The province announced new COVID-19 restrictions on Nov. 24 which were to remain in place for at least three weeks. Then on Dec. 8, further restrictions were announced including mandatory work-from home orders where it can be done.
A request for decision (RFD) in council’s Nov. 30 agenda package laid out risks/consequences if council didn’t change the way those meetings are held.
"Not amending how council conducts business could potentially increase the spread of COVID-19,” the RFD said.
Secondly, “not amending how council conducts business and not allowing public access would be in violation of the Municipal Government Act,” it added.
