Mountain View Publishing's photographer, Noel West, was honoured Friday night in Calgary at the Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association's annual ATCO photo awards.
Actually, Noel was more than honoured. He dominated. Noel won, or placed in every category save for one:
• First-place spot news Olds Albertan.
• First- and second-place human interest Didsbury Review.
• First-place sports Didsbury Review.
• Second-place multi-picture Didsbury Review.
• Honourable mentions Carstairs Courier, Didsbury Review.
We have been fortunate to have a long history of photographic excellence. Noel has only been with us a bit more than a year. He had big shoes to fill. One of his predecessors, the very talented Carla Victor, always left the ATCO awards evening with a disproportionately large number of awards.
Quality content is the key to our success. Noel plays an invaluable role in our pursuit of this goal. He covers a large territory – from Innisfail to Carstairs and everywhere in between. Our demands on his time and talent are considerable. He loves his job and it shows.
Noel's former colleague, Justina Contenti, from the Innisfail Province, also secured a first-place illustration and an honourable mention.
It's nice when others notice and reward a job done exceptionally well.
