A pancake breakfast organized by the Olds High School (OHS) student leadership team to raise money for schools that lost a student in the April 6 Humboldt Broncos crash was hugely successful, officials say.

The event, held May 31 in the commons, raised $6,168.20, so the school will donate $685.35 to each of the nine schools that lost a student due to the tragedy.

On April 6, the Broncos’ bus, heading to a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League playoff game, collided with a semi-trailer at a rural intersection about 200 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon. Sixteen people were killed and 13 injured, including Olds resident Graysen Cameron. Cameron was among those who attended Thursday's breakfast.

The breakfast also featured a raffle in the commons and carnival games in the gym. Combined, the breakfast and carnival games raised $2,273.45. The raffle brought in $1,134.75 and an auction on Facebook resulted in another $2,760.

"Leadership would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who supported our fundraiser," says OHS student services co-ordinator Luann Statchuk.
