Olds and area students qualify for badminton provincials

École Olds High School student Christian Persson has qualified to compete in badminton provincials in Edmonton May 3-4.

Christian Persson won a silver medal at zones and will be representing zone 2 and École Olds High School at the high school badminton provincials inGrade 12 boys singles in Edmonton May 3-4.

OLDS —  Students from two Olds and area schools have qualified to compete in badminton provincials, which will be held May 3-4 in Edmonton.

École Olds High School (ÉOHS) student Christian Persson will represent the school and zone 2 after winning a silver medal in Grade 12 boys singles during zones, held April 26 in Airdrie.

Two Grade 10 students from Olds Koinonia Christian School - Marielle Padiernos and Silas Miller - also qualified in mixed doubles.

Zones for Grades 10 and 11 were held April 27. Zones for Grade 9s will be held May 8 in Okotoks.

Sixteen ÉOHS students qualified to compete in zones during divisionals. To do so, they had to finish in first or second place. They include:

Grade 9

Ryder Persson - boys singles - gold

Melanie Weinans - girls Singles - gold

Nate Reist / Blair Dowland - boys doubles - gold

Jordan Graham / Mateya Sept - mixed doubles - gold

Anastasia Plowman / Royanne Dixon - girls doubles - silver

Grade 10

Andre Bumbasi / Carmela Gamboa - mixed doubles - silver

Grade 11

Melody Fuller - girls singles - gold

Peal Regeg - girls singles - bronze

Danika Bohnet / Hannah Zurken - girls doubles -  gold

Grade 12

Christian Persson - boys singles - gold

Devyn Rice / Clair Andrew - girls doubles - gold
