OLDS — A person who participated in the Friday, Nov. 6 leisure swim at the Olds Aquatic Centre between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. has tested positive for COVID-19.

As a result, all Aquatic Centre patrons who were at the facility during that time are advised to monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms, undergo the Alberta Health Services (AHS) self-assessment guidelines and contact the 811 number if necessary.

Town of Olds Mayor Michael Muzychka announced the positive test during the town’s Nov. 9 council meeting.

He said AHS officials are undertaking contact tracing of anyone who may have been in close contact with the affected individual.

In a prepared statement, Muzychka said the town remains committed to protecting people from the spread of COVID-19 through safety protocols it has set in place at all its recreation facilities.

“We appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we work through these challenging times,” he said.

Muzychka also thanked community services director Doug Wagstaff and all of the Olds Aquatic Centre staff for their “extra work through this time and adhering so strictly to the AHS protocols.”

Chief administrative officer Michael Merritt said the town will leave further investigation of the matter to AHS officials.

Meanwhile, he said, the town will do whatever it can to “basically continue to be vigilant in regards to COVID-19.”
