OLDS — The Fill The Boot charity check stop, held by emergency services personnel Dec. 12 brought in $7,026 as well as some toys and gift certificates for the Olds Christmas Angels.

Members of the Olds RCMP, Olds Fire Department and Town of Olds municipal enforcement department stopped motorists outside the fire hall asking for donations to fill firefighter’s boots from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.

The Christmas Angels is a group of volunteers who collect and deliver toys, and gift cards to needy families in the community.

“In comparison to previous years, this total is very similar, but down a little bit,” the Town of Olds' protective services director Justin Andrew wrote in an email to the Albertan.

“However, we don’t feel that this is of concern as there have been several Christmas Angel fundraisers in recent days, and we think that the community still strongly supports the work that the organization does,” he added.

“The Town of Olds protective services division is proud to continue this Christmas event as it brings joy to the emergency services workers and ensures that everyone can be recognized during the holidays,” Andrew wrote.
