OLDS — Olds College has again been included in Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges list in 2020, jumping up 10 places this year to 33rd overall.

The Research Infosource Inc. ranking recognized the college’s focus on agriculture technology, crops, environmental and wetlands, livestock, and turfgrass, officials said in announcing the national list on Tuesday.

The college’s ongoing collaboration with industry, academics and government to support applied research, innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship was also taken into account.

Being included on the list of the top research colleges reflects well on the local institution, said Dr. Joy Agnew, associate vice-president of applied research at Olds College.

“Olds College is focused on enhancing innovation in agriculture through applied research,” Agnew said in a press release. “The Olds College Centre for Innovation, together with our Smart Farm, and Technology Access Centre for Livestock Production, are working closely with industry to evolve existing agriculture practices.”

Olds College had sponsored research income of almost $2.3 million in 2019, up from $1.47 million in 2018, an increase of 56.3 per cent. Its main affiliated research centre/institute is the Olds College Centre for Innovation.

Olds College is one of five Alberta colleges that made the list in 2020, the others being NAIT, SAIT, Lethbridge College and Bow Valley College.

Cegep de Trois-Rivieres was named the top research college in 2020, up from second overall last year.
