OLDS — The Olds College of Agriculture & Technology is looking for a new board chair.
Ted Menzies is stepping down from the role effective immediately, due to personal reasons.
The board has appointed Al Kemmere as interim chair, effective immediately, until a new chair is recruited.
Menzies had chaired the board since May 2023. He joined the board as a public member in July 2020.
“While regretful of the need for this decision, Ted expressed deep optimism for the work that the board and college will do together to ensure the sustainability of Olds College long into the future,” an Olds College news release, issued Feb. 8 said.
“The college wishes to thank Ted for his contributions to the college,” the release said.
Kemmere, a former Olds College student, was appointed to the board as a public member in March 2023.
He is perhaps best known as is a Mountain View County councillor and reeve for many years before retiring.
He is also past president of Rural Municipalities of Alberta and has served as a board member/executive of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
Kemmere has also served as a board member of Westview Co-op and a member of a local church parish council.
He has also coached boys’ and girls’ hockey.
He played a large role in the creation of the Community Learning Campus, a joint venture between Olds College and Chinook's Edge School Division.
