Olds College and the University of Calgary have struck a deal to cooperate on various initiatives.

Olds College and the University of Calgary faculty of veterinary medicine (UCVM) have signed a coordination agreement enabling both post-secondary institutions to work together on veterinary teaching, learning and research initiatives.

The deal paves the way for collaboration between researchers plus the research space and equipment for student practicum rotations.

ìThe intent is to find ways to meet common needs while maximizing the use of resources to the best advantage of both schools,î a news release says.

ìThrough our partnership with the University of Calgary we will create enhanced learning opportunities for our students, while working together to advance applied research in animal sciences,î says Jason Dewling, vice-president academic and research at Olds College.

ìThe partnership also provides great alignment with our Beyond campaign, as we look to redefine animal health technology programming by establishing a world-class learning environment that will provide state-of-the-art facilities, year-round training, industry integration and the implementation of a unique instructional model.î

ìI'm excited about collaborating to create unique learning opportunities for students at UCVM and Olds College,î says Dr. Baljit Singh, UCVM's dean.

ìAnd this agreement supports our faculty's strategic commitment to strengthen our community connections and serve Alberta's rural communities and its agricultural and equine industries.î

Singh says one of the first orders of business following the formal signing will be a visit to Olds College by UCVM's Leadership Council to learn about the programs offered and areas of strategic focus to find areas for collaboration.
