OLDS — Const. Mitchell Price, the new community resource officer, was introduced to town council on March 13.
Price, a 12-year member of the RCMP, has spent the last three years stationed with the Olds detachment. He started his new job on March 6.
Price’s job is to build and expand relationships with local children, youth, seniors, and various organizations, including businesses and volunteer groups.
Price expects most of his time will be spent during the school year, working collaboratively with all schools, including the Olds College of Agriculture & Technology.
“Being a visible face in these institutions, being approachable and helpful is intended to form strong community ties with police," a town news release says.
As part of that role, Price will be very visible at community functions throughout the year.
“I pride myself on being approachable and look forward to meeting as many community members as possible,” Price said in the release.
Outside of work, hockey has always been a passion for Const. Price. He has actually been able to coach both his sons in the sport in Olds.
On behalf of town council, mayor Judy Dahl congratulated Price on his new position.
“We are very pleased to have this position filled after being vacant for quite some time," she said in the release. "This is an important position on the force and for the community, as it is quite proactive and focuses on prevention of crime."
