OLDS — For another year, if residents want to attend or speak to a council meeting, they’ll have to come to town council chambers for a 1 p.m. start time.
Olds town council made that decision and several other related ones during their Oct. 24 organizational meeting.
Council members agreed to meet every second Monday or so, starting next month until October, next year and they agreed to begin those meetings at 1 p.m.
During last year’s organizational meeting, Coun. Darren Wilson suggested meeting at 6 p.m., to make it easier for people working during the day to be able to make it to a council meeting, but that idea was voted down that year.
Council members also agreed to hold their policies and priorities (P & P) committee meetings – a kind of initial platform for ideas and issues – on the first Monday of each month from November to next October, also starting at 1 p.m.
However, when long weekends occur that might interfere with that schedule, they agreed to meet for regular council or P & P meetings on Tuesdays -- also at 1 p.m.
There was no such call this year.
Last year, council voted to move that start time for P & P meetings to 1 p.m. from 10 a.m. This year, there was no call to change that start time either.
Council also determined the rotation for councillors serving as deputy mayors.
Among other duties, deputy mayors chair P & P meetings.
Until next October, the deputy mayor rotation for town councillors is: November, December — Wanda Blatz; January, February — Darren Wilson; March, April – Dan Daley; May, June -- Harvey Walsh; July, August – James Cummings; September, October – Heather Ryan.
