OLDS — The garage of the Olds Association for Community Living (OACL), damaged by fire last April, has been demolished.

The demolition in the alley at 5025 51st St., was undertaken Jan. 9.

The garage and a vehicle inside it were burnt in a case of suspected arson on April 19 last year.

OACL human resources manager Sharon Dietrich says the garage will not be replaced. They have another plan for that area.

“We’re hoping in the future that we can make it a place for our individuals, like an outdoor patio kind of thing for the individuals that we serve,” she said during an interview with the Albertan.

Dietrich said that patio is not likely to be created until some time this spring or summer.

In the meantime, the plan is to have the area gravelled and levelled. Also, the south wall will receive new siding and lights will be installed there.

That work will likely all be done this week, Dietrich said.
