OLDS - There were four active COVID-19 cases at the Mountain View Seniors' Housing (MVSH) lodge in Olds at press time Monday, down from five after one resident recovered in recent days, says chief administrative officer Sam Smalldon.
All four Mount View Lodge residents are in isolation at the lodge and are considered stable, he said.
“There has been no new positive since the first round of five,” said Smalldon. “We continue in outbreak (status).”
The recovered resident was the person who was originally detected with the virus on Dec. 7, with follow-up testing resulting in the four additional cases.
None of the facility’s 29 staff members have tested positive, he said.
Residents were tested on Dec. 10, 15, 21 and 26. A further swabbing of staff is scheduled for Tuesday.
The entire 69-resident facility remains under isolation protocol, with visitation being restricted to two primary essential visitors per resident.
Smalldon says residents and staff are holding up well.
“I’m very proud of the staff and happy for the residents,” he said. “And I think the families are happy as well.”
During the outbreak all residents are served their meals in their rooms, and all recreational activities are on a one-to-one basis.
Residents are receiving regularly-scheduled care such as bathing, he said.
All residents must be symptom free for 28 days before the lodge can come off of outbreak status.
MVSH also operates lodges in Didsbury, Sundre and Carstairs. There have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at any of those facilities.
Seasons Olds
Meanwhile, Seasons Olds was placed on outbreak status effective Dec. 22.
LeighAnne Voll, chief operating officer of Seasons Retirement Communities said in a statement the situation is being closely monitored.
"Seasons will directly contact any individual considered exposed to confirmed cases, and these individuals are asked to self-isolate and (will be) offered testing for COVID-19," Voll said in the statement, adding any staff deemed to have been exposed will be placed on work restrictions for 14 days.
"Only those individuals contacted directly by Seasons are considered exposed to a case. If you are not contacted directly by Seasons, you are not considered exposed and can continue with your usual activities while monitoring for symptoms."
