Losing the Team Roping Canada Finals hasn't seemed to faze the Olds Agricultural Society.
The Calgary Stampede announced on Dec. 4 that the finals, which have long been held at the Olds MegaDome, will now be held at the Agrium Western Event Centre, which is scheduled to open in Calgary in June.
Olds Agricultural Society executive director Tami Gardner said in an email that the society “does not have an official comment at this time” on the finals moving to Calgary.
She did say, however, that these types of events are “somewhat transient” and the society has taken steps to make sure the MegaDome schedule still has a full slate of high-profile events.
“It is this vulnerability that has prompted OAS' board and management to actively pursue the development and production of our own events to mitigate the instability,” Gardner said. “From those progressive efforts, several unique and successful events are produced annually in our community including the Central Alberta Draft Horse Classic, Summer Synergy, Cutter's Classic and the Olds Fall Classic Beef Show to name a few.”
