Olds middle school triathlon attracts 91 participants

Ninety-one École Deer Meadow School students gutted it out during the school’s annual Titan Triathlon

OLDS — Ninety-one École Deer Meadow School (ÉDMS) students gutted it out during the school’s annual Titan Triathlon, held June 9.

The event involved swimming 10 lengths of the pool in the Olds Aquatic Centre; biking from there down 54th Street to ÉDMS, a distance of three kilometres; then running one kilometre on a trail around the school to the finish line.

The winning time for individual participants was clocked by Evan Wierenga, 16:57. The female winner was Allora Scott, who posted a time of 22:57.

The winning team consisted of Kenadie Weiss, Vivian Wells and Talia Challoner who recorded a time of 14:26.

The triathlon has now been held for eight years. The number of entrants has ranged from 150 to 267.

This is the eighth year that Gina Trombley of ÉDMS has been organizing it.

In an email, she said this year’s turnout was “pretty good, considering we haven't had the event since 2019 due to COVID and students aren't aware of what the event entails.”
