OLDS – A shoplifting complaint has led Olds RCMP to the arrest of a pair of out-of-town suspects connected to a cache of stolen property worth about $7,000.
RCMP Const. Kelsey Davidge said in a media release that on Dec. 23 Olds RCMP responded to a call of shoplifting at a business on 46 Street in Olds.
While enroute, RCMP were updated that one suspect had left in a vehicle, and another remained inside the store, said Davidge.
“Olds RCMP, with the assistance from Didsbury RCMP conducted queries on the vehicle, which showed the licence plate as stolen,” said Davidge. “RCMP conducted a roadside stop on the vehicle, and arrested the male driver without incident. The second suspect was located exiting the store and was subsequently arrested.”
Davidge said a search of the suspects’ vehicle revealed the following property:
• a large quantity of products determined stolen from multiple businesses totalling about $7,000;
• a stolen licence plate;
• stolen driver licence;
• multiple folding knives; and
• about 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
As a result of the investigation, Brandon Ross Keller, 32, resident of Vulcan, was charged with:
• possession of a controlled substance;
• two counts of possession of Property obtained by crime under $5,000;
• theft over $5,000 – shoplifting; and
• failing to comply.
Paige Ashlee, 19, resident of Cochrane, was charged with:
• theft over $5,000 – shoplifting; and
• possession of a controlled substance.
Davidge said both accused were released and are set to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on Feb. 26.
