OLDS - Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools and Chinook's Edge School Division schools in Olds are open today but water fountains are closed due to the town being under a boil water advisory.

Schools are encouraging students to come to school Monday with water bottles.

"Due to the recent boil water advisory for the Town of Olds, we ask all families to please send their student(s) with at least one full water bottle to school as our water fountains will be closed," Olds High School advised yesterday.

Holy Trinity Catholic School advised that its kiosk will be open as will the vending machines in the school but is asking families to send their students prepared with water today.

"Due to the power failure at the Mountain View Regional Water Services Commission’s treatment plant, the Town of Olds has been placed under a boil water advisory effective from immediately," an Alberta Emergency Alert issued yesterday afternoon said, adding further "Ongoing water quality testing is holding steady so this is precautionary measure due to continued water discoloration in some parts for Town."

Residents are asked to boil water for at least one minute prior to consuming or cooking.

The boil water advisory is expected to last for the next 24 – 48 hours until the Mountain View Regional Water Services Commission has flushed its main supply line to Olds and reservoir levels are restored.
