OLDS — The deadline to submit nominations for this year’s Olds & District Chamber of Commerce Small Business Awards is closer than ever.
But there’s still time.
The deadline is 5 p.m. Oct. 1, says Murray Elliott, chair of the chamber’s Small Business Awards committee.
There are eight categories altogether: Business of the Year for 16 or more employees, Business of the Year for 15 or fewer employees, Business Ethics Award, Community Spirit, Community Spirit non-profit, People’s Choice, President’s Award and Youth Employee of the Year.
Elliott notes there are several ways that people can submit their nominations.
“You can scan the code in the newspaper. We have the ad running. We’ve been running it for a bit,” he said during an interview.
“You can go on the chamber site – the chamber Facebook site. There are QR codes there and we really encourage people to get involved in nominating.”
The awards will be presented during an in-person gala Oct. 19 at the Olds College of Agriculture & Technology’s Alumni Centre.
This year’s theme is Stand Out and Shine.
Tickets are are available on the Chamber website and/or through EventBrite. They can also be obtained at the chamber office which is located inside the Mountain View Publishing building on 51st Street in Uptowne.
Elliott said the ticket price has deliberately been kept low.
“We recognize that business is tough out there. We're running this on a very thin margin,” he said.
There’ll be dinner and entertainment as well as the awards presentation. It’s also a chance for people to network and simply enjoy themselves during a night out.
“(It’s) a nice night to get dressed up and get out and meet with your fellow businesspeople,” Elliott said.
