OLDS — Tracks Pub owners Scott and Brittney van de Pypekamp have changed their minds and have shut down indoor dining in their pub as per provincial COVID-19 restrictions.
Scott told The Albertan today that the business will remain closed to indoor dining until further notice. He announced the reversal on social media yesterday.
In the meantime, “we’re just going to go takeout. I’m going to try and get my patio licence,” he said during an interview April 14.
In early April the provincial government announced it was closing down indoor, in-person dining in an effort to control spread of the COVID-19 virus, which is surging in a third wave. However, takeout and outdoor patio service is allowed.
Shortly after the new restrictions were announced, the van de Pypekamps announced plans to continue offering indoor in-person dining in order to keep their business afloat and keep their workers employed.
During the April 14 interview, Scott indicated he supports a twitter hashtag #openupalberta which is pushing for pandemic restrictions to at least be loosened.
“Because they were so low in numbers with the stay open movement, I’m hoping that (with) #openupalberta people will be able to support it easier, staying on the right side of the law,” he said.
Brittney voiced her support for the hashtag as well.
“They want businesses to open up so people can make a living,” she said. “People are done with this.”
