O-NET, the town-owned Internet, phone and TV service company in Olds, has won an award.

It won the Best story: making your community stronger award for a video about O-NET called Driven By Our Community.

It was one of five awards announced May 23 by the Canadian Communications System Alliance (CCSA), which represents more than 110 independent companies providing Internet, TV and telephone services across Canada.

In addition to the prestige of winning the award O-NET receives $1,000 to be donated to a non-profit group in Olds of its choice.

O-NET marketing and communications specialist Amy Smart says the company is in the throes of deciding who to donate the money to.

The competition, now in its fifth year, is called Tuned-In Canada.

Winners in each category were determined in two ways: by the most votes received, and by the most votes received per capita subscribers. Votes were cast online or via paper ballots.

Nominations opened on March 12 and closed on March 23. The entries were then judged. On April 10, a shortlist of potential winners was released. Canadians were then able to go online and vote for their favourites.

Olds residents could find the video on websites operated by the town, Olds Institute, and the O-NET Facebook page. Unfortunately, that video has since been taken down, Smart says.

Voting closed on May 11.

Winners will be celebrated at Connect 2018, CCSA’s annual conference, which will be held this September in St. Andrew’s by the Sea, N. B.
