OLDS — On Dec. 9, the Olds Kiwanis Performing Arts Society revived an old tradition: Breakfast with Santa.
The society held two sittings at the Evergreen Centre on Saturday, Dec. 9: one at 9 a.m. which attracted about 75 people and another at 11 a.m. which attracted about 65.
Carol Johnson, president of the Olds Kiwanis Performing Arts Society, says the tradition of holding the breakfasts died out years ago.
However, the society decided to revive it this year as part of their mandate to bring the arts to the community. They wanted to do something that was affordable for families. It was so successful they’re looking at making it an annual event again.
There was plenty of food and there were lots of activities.
Lisa Green sang Christmas carols.
Larry Arvay played guitar and sang.
Members of BGC Olds and Area created sparkle tattoos for kids.
Dr. Dick Wray made balloon animals and performed magic.
And of course, Santa Claus made an appearance. Kids came up on stage to have their photos taken with him.
Johnson was pleased with how it went. She noted lots of volunteers helped out.
Everybody, including kids, parents, performers and volunteers seemed to be having a good time.
“When you see the kids and how happy they are (it’s worth it),” Johnson said.
