BOWDEN -- The town's first business showcase is starting to take shape, according to Coun. Carol Pion, chair of the community's Economic Development Committee (EDC).

The event takes place April 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Paterson Community Hall.

During council's April 8 meeting, Pion said as of that date, 15 companies were registered to set up displays in the hall, and she had indications a few more might commit to doing so "in the next little while."

She said one of the companies indicating plans to do so is a bakery that is opening up in the community.

"The word out there is everybody is really enthused about coming and being there," Pion said.

"We've kind of got companies that are kind of out there. Now we just need to get people to come and see them. There's a lot of excitement going on about it. We just hope that we can kind of keep that excitement going and get the community out now to do that."

Pion said the committee is considering displaying potential new town logos at the showcase, in order to get feedback on them from the community.

She noted that to help create that brand, the town has posted a survey on its website designed to obtain information from residents about the community and how they'd like to see it grow and attract business.

"We had a little bit of kickback with the survey going online, but the stat that came back the very next day was that three per cent of the residents here had actually taken the survey already," Pion said.

"So I thought that was quite positive. We have only 1,200 residents and three per cent of the population has already taken the survey. I thought that was great.

"We're always going to have a little bit of kickback, but we'll try to get as much positive out of it as possible. But hopefully that will get a little more interactive with the community as well," she added.
