Smokeshop raid results in charges
The owner of Chad's Smokeshop, Chad Wentworth, is facing numerous charges after three of his stores — including the one in Olds — were raided by police a few months ago.
Wentworth is facing nine charges (four counts of possession of prohibited weapons, four counts of possession of a prohibited weapon while prohibited, and one count of knowingly promoting or selling instructional material for consuming or facilitating consumption of illicit drugs), in relation to the Olds search, plus two additional charges for a search of his shop in Sylvan Lake. A third shop in Brooks was also the subject of a search warrant.
Wentworth is next due to appear in Didsbury court on August 22 to face the Olds charges while he was to appear Monday in Red Deer to answer the Sylvan Lake charges.
The Olds search took place on May 17 at about noon. Numerous prohibited weapons and literature related to illicit drug use were seized.
Red Deer woman facing driving charges
A 52-year-old Red Deer woman is facing impaired operation and exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood charges after her Olds Cutlass was pulled over on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway at about noon on Wednesday. Olds RCMP pulled over the northbound vehicle and found that she was nearly four times over the legal limit.
Olds man gives false report
A 45-year-old Olds man is facing theft, possession of a weapon for the purpose of trafficking, theft of a firearm, possession of a weapon while prohibited and public mischief after he falsely reported a break and enter to a residence in Olds in late May. After receiving the report of the break-in — in which the man said a firearm had been stolen — police later determined that the report was false. The firearm has yet to be recovered. The accused will next be appearing in court on August 29.
