Olds RCMP were looking into a series of break and enters last week that hit a number of local businesses.
Sometime during the overnight hours on Aug. 10 and 11, a culprit or culprits tried to break into several businesses in Plaza 27 on Highway 27.
Police say someone entered the Little Shop of Healers and then proceeded to enter Anthony Clark Insurance through the adjoining wall. The culprit or culprits also tried to enter The Source, but police say they were unable to do so.
On the same evening, police say The Little House of Wireless northwest of Plaza 27 was also entered.
Police aren't sure if anything was taken from any of the shops.
The Red Deer Forensic Identification section was on the scene Thursday morning at Plaza 27 looking over the scene for possible evidentiary clues.
On the same evening, several other businesses in town were also damaged in and near the Imperial Industrial Park.
A rock was thrown through a window at the RBC branch currently under construction, while the tanks at the UFA cardlock were spray-painted.
The Oceanfront Saddlery shop was also entered through the back door. Police believe the culprit or culprits were looking for either cash or small items that could be easily converted to cash.
In a separate incident, during the early morning hours of Aug. 11 someone broke a front window at the Mountain View Credit Union. RCMP said the vandalism set off the alarm system.
Staff-Sgt. Kevin Morton said these incidents point to the fact that more people need to be looking out for the larger community interest.
“We are becoming a real easy target for criminal activity. We need to become more aware of what's going on around us,” he said, noting that the town's proximity to the Queen Elizabeth II Highway poses an issue. “(For safety) we should be taking an interest in our neighbours and our neighbour's business.”
