OLDS — Local resident Mary Wright is impressed with the many people who are spreading positive messages during the COVID-19 pandemic. She’s doing her best to follow suit.
One day when she was out for a walk, Wright came across several boxes outside a home on 57th Avenue. They were loaded with items like little stuffed animals and books, all for free. She decided to make good use of the freebies.
She decided to make 20 or 30 packages for her friends, neighbours and acquaintances because she says many – especially children – are likely “bored out of their skull.”
The packages include masks, gloves and even a cookie recipe.
“They need something to do to encourage some activity and just to encourage spreading good news, more than anything,” Wright said.
“My daughter’s wedding got cancelled so we’re trying to do a get together with people who would have been at her wedding. So I’ve been sending ISO care packages to them and hoping that we can do a virtual get together – a virtual bachelorette party and things like that,” she added.
The idea, she said, is “just to spread joy.”
In April, Wright saw a couple of people driving with signs also featuring positive messages like Stay Strong. Signs on another vehicles thanked frontline health workers for all that they’re doing during the pandemic.
She’s also impressed and pleased by the many positive signs she sees in the windows of homes in the community.
