A draft version of the town's proposed community standards bylaw will be presented to council at its policies and priorities meeting on Aug. 18.The proposed bylaw would consolidate the town's many existing community standards bylaws into a single statute.On April 23, the town held a Community Livability Engagement at the Olds Sports Complex, which drew about 44 people who wanted to have their say on what should be included in a community standards bylaw.Citizens gave input on four categories: traffic and parking; public behaviour; property care and pets and animals.“We've taken that information and we're drafting out a community standards bylaw now. And that draft bylaw will be presented to the policies and priorities meeting in August,” said Debbie Godfrey, the town's legislative clerk who is leading the team putting the bylaw together.That team is still taking findings from the April event and compiling them into a report, which will be presented at the policies and priorities committee meeting, she said.At policies and priorities, council does have the option to send the draft bylaw to a regular meeting for a vote but Godfrey said administration will advise members to hold off in order to gather more feedback.“We will recommend to the policies and priorities committee meeting not to send it to council right away but to take that bylaw, which contains the information gathered from our community and then go back into our community and say, does this represent what we've heard,” she said.Godfrey said after council provides its input on the bylaw, additional public engagements will be [email protected]
