OLDS — A couple of lots in a building rezoned to allow a cannabis business may soon be rezoned back to their original designation: light industrial, because the cannabis business never moved in there.
Council has set Monday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. in council chambers as the date for a public hearing on that rezoning application.
In an appearance before council, municipal planner Kyle Sloan told council that the area (technically two parcels of land) along 43rd Street near Highway 2A were zoned light industrial, as was the rest of the block.
However, a request was received to rezone these two parcels to Direct Control-7 (DC-7) which is required for cannabis-related businesses.
A DC-7 designation requires council, rather than just administrative staff, to approve the development.
Sloan said the anticipated cannabis business never did move in there. Meanwhile, development applications have come up that could be approved by town staff if the DC-7 zoning wasn’t there.
Hence, the application by the property owner to zone those two parcels back to their original light industrial category.
