Several families in the Olds are are going to be hosting 24 exchange students from Quebec May 1-8 to teach them about cultural events and the heritage of Western Canada.

Margo Cartwright is hosting some of the junior high-age students and is excited about the program. She shared some of the plans for the trip during an interview with the Albertan.

“We’re going to go to Banff National Park to experience events there, hikes and just see the scenery,” said Cartwright.

They’ll also be going to Drumheller to visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum and visiting local farms around Olds.

Additionally, there will be a weekend for the students to spend with their host families in the Olds area and Alberta in general.

“We have 24 students coming from Quebec so there’s a few of us families who have doubled up,” said Cartwright.

During the experience, Cartwright hopes the students gain an appreciation for what Canada is like out in the West.

“Just to give them a broader understanding of what’s available across Canada as well as the language,” said Cartwright. “They’re coming to Western Canada where things are vast and a little further apart and much more agricultural and we have the beauty of the mountains.”

Cartwright mentioned that while they are here they will have the chance to visit and explore Olds College.

“That’s another great opportunity to showcase what we have available to students that they might not have seen otherwise,” Cartwright said.
