OLDS — Members of the Olds United Church want to celebrate the fact that this month marks the 126th anniversary of the church in the community.
But they’re still contemplating how that will happen because the COVID-19 pandemic is complicating things.
Allan said there's no specific anniversary date in November, just the month as a whole.
“We usually have a dinner, a celebration dinner. But this year I guess, we’ll just celebrate quietly," Rev. Tammy Allan said during an interview.
Allan said the congregation likely can't get together on platforms like Zoom because many of them are elderly and don’t relate well to high tech things like that.
“At this point, the one thing I’ve done is invited people to give a gift to the church equivalent to coming to the dinner or supplying food for the dinner,” she said.
Although the church is celebrating its 126th anniversary, some clarification is needed. Before 1925 the building was a Methodist Church. The Methodists are one of the denominations that came together to form the United Church of Canada in 1925.
