OLDS — A record 350 youth age nine to 21 from B.C. to Nova Scotia and as far away as Mexico participated in Summer Synergy 2022, held July 12-16 at the Olds Regional Exhibition (ORE) grounds.
A total of $63,000 was awarded to 55 high achieving youth, adding to a 12-year total of $780,000 invested in young people who live in rural areas.
The annual event to promote and boost agricultural skills among youth was developed as a partnership between Olds Regional Exhibition (ORE), 4-H Alberta, the Calgary Stampede, and Olds College.
Following are some initial results from the event.
Carp's Delta Jane 3305J exhibited by Kyle Yaremko of St. Paul was named the supreme sheep.
Yaremko also took home the award for supreme flock.
Reid's Aurora 166J, representing all other breeds, and exhibited by Taylor Reid of Hafford, Sask., was named supreme commercial female.
The supreme purebred female was TZ Rosebud 209J, representing the Black Angus breed, exhibited by Dylan Fuller of Lacombe.
ORE general manager says the official Judge, Ryan Rash of Crockett, Texas was “an incredible hit, considering his talent for livestock judging and passion for youth livestock development.”
