OLDS — Town staff are getting ready to make repairs to the splash park, now that its season is over for another year.

The splash park had perhaps its briefest season of operation ever, due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. It wasn’t officially opened until mid July.

Initially, it was slated to close in mid-September, but due to warmer, sunnier weather, the decision was made to keep it open a little longer.

Now, plans are underway to undertake some repairs to the facility.

During an Olds council policies and priorities meeting, operations director Scott Chant said a leaking valve needs to be replaced.

A temporary repair was made so the splash park could operate this summer but now the aim is to fix the problem by replacing that valve.

“Peter has the new valve sitting on his chair,” Chant told councillors. “So as soon as the splash park is shut down, he’ll be able to replace that and everything will be good.”

Chant said the plan is also to replace some probes that monitor the ph of the water and the chlorine in it.

“They have a life expectancy and they wear out as well. Those are on order,” he said. “It didn’t hinder the park, those two items, so lucky in that aspect.”
