Seasons Retirement Communities, which owns Sunrise Village and Sunrise Encore retirement facilities in Olds, will be donating a total of 200 hams to the Mountain View Food Bank April 10.

Sunrise Village and Sunrise Encore will donate 100 hams each. The idea is to donate them in time for Easter.

The project is part of an effort by the company to donate a total of 1,900 hams to food banks via facilities it owns in Alberta and Ontario.

Mountain View Food Bank acting president Vicky Johnson is pleased by the donation.

"I think it's great," she said during an interview with the Albertan. "We can always use more meat.

"We don't really buy hams that often. We do sometimes at Christmastime, but ham isn't something that we have on a regular basis.

"We usually (have) hamburger -- that kind of a thing - and of course, packaged meat like wieners and salami. But hams aren't something we give out on a regular basis, so that's great.

"Two hundred hams will come in handy. It'll be really nice for people."
