The Olds Rural Crime Watch Association is holding its annual poster contest.

That contest is open to students from grades 1-9 in rural communities. All qualifying posters must be received by June 30.

Posters can be hand-drawn or computer-generated but must show some input by the student. The poster cannot be a direct copy of something from the Internet.

Incorrect spelling automatically disqualifies a poster.

Poster contest themes are rural crime watch, crime prevention or report a poacher.

In each of the categories, the prize for those in first place is $65. Those in second place will receive $45, while those in third place get $30.

In addition, first- and second-place posters will be sent on to the Provincial Rural Crime Watch Association for judging. Those judges will determine which posters will be used in the 2017 calendar.

The solicitor general will also provide plaques to provincial-level first place winners.

All posters will become the property of the APRCWA (Alberta Provincial Rural Crime Watch Association) and will not be returned.

Artwork is to be done in landscape format: (horizontal 8.5 x 11 inches).

The entrant's (student's) name, name of school and grade, home address, and telephone numbers are to be printed on the back of the artwork in pencil.

Parental consent forms must be included – taped, not stapled -- to the back of the poster.

Winners' names (and possibly a photo) will be published in The Bulletin, which is also posted online.

Parents must give permission for children's names/photos to be published. A completed release form allowing such publication must accompany the child's artwork.

Submissions can be dropped off at the Century 21 Real Estate office in Olds (on Highway 27 next to Subway) or call Judy at 403-556-8846 to arrange for pickup/drop-off.

Remember that the art must be in landscape format.

The poster and form are to be given to the local representatives of the Rural Crime Watch Association.
