Saturday snowfall warning extended to Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds - Sundre area

10 to 20 centimetres of snow expected to fall within 12 hours or less

OLDS - Environment Canada has extended its snowfall warning issued early Saturday morning for the Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail - Stettler area to now include the Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds - Sundre area.

Heavy snow will continue today with total amounts of 10 to 20 centimetres (cm), the federal agency's 1:20 p.m. warning for the Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds - Sundre stated.

The area includes Rocky View County, Mountain View County, Olds, Sundre, Carstairs, Cremona, Water Valley, Didsbury, Airdrie, Crossfield, Bottrel, Madden and Cochrane.

"The heaviest snow will fall this afternoon and tonight," the warning states.

The warning for the the Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail - Stettler area issued early Saturday morning noted the highest snow totals were expected in areas east of Highway 2.

The federal agency says snow will taper off Sunday morning.

"Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected," the warning concluded.

A warning is issued in Alberta when 10 cm or more of snow falls within 12 hours or less.
