Second mental health bike ride cheque presented

Former Olds resident Curtis Ross has presented the second cheque arising from his bike ride from Kelowna to Olds.

Former Olds resident Curtis Ross rode his bike from Kelowna to Olds last month to raise money money for mental health via Alberta Health Services in Olds as well as the Canadian Mental Health Association in Kelowna. Another purpose of the trip was to raise awareness about the effect low oil prices have had on workers in the industry. The bike trip raised a total of $15,795. That figure was split 50-50 between mental health services in Olds and Sundre as well as in Kelowna. The money for mental health services in Olds and Sundre was presented on Aug. 27. The money for health services in Kelowna was presented on Sept. 3.

Another goal was to increase awareness about the effect low oil prices have had on workers in the industry. Although he now lives in Kelowna, Ross, 37, works in the oilpatch between Olds and Sundre.

Ross made it from Kelowna to Olds in just five days, arriving in Olds on Aug. 20.

The bike trip raised a total of $15,795. That figure was split 50-50 between mental health services in Olds and Sundre as well as in Kelowna.

The money for mental health services in Olds and Sundre was presented on Aug. 27. The money for health services in Kelowna was presented on Sept. 3.

Also, Paramount Resources donated $5,000 on Ross's behalf to the Alberta chapter of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
