OLDS — The Cam Clark Ford parking lot and streets around it were packed Aug. 6 as people took in the second annual Smoke Show Car Show.
The event, hosted by Cam Clark Ford from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., featured a wide variety of vehicles, from vintage to brand new ones.
Also on the lot were a very popular bouncy castle and a smoker demo. Kolb’s Fine Meats cooked up burgers. Patio specials were offered at the nearby Grouchy Daddy’s restaurant.
All proceeds from donations went to Hope 4 MVC Kids, which which raises money to help families cover medical costs and associated expenses.
One of the many attractions was a 1927 customized Model T Ford, owned by Rod Peters.
During an interview, Peters said he’s worked on the vehicle for about four winters.
He bought it about five years ago from a guy in Innisfail who had several (similar) vehicles.
“I found it on Kijiji,” he said. “His wife said ‘get rid of some of these.’”
Peters said the vehicle is now about 90 per cent completed.
It has some unique features.
For example, the driver’s seat is actually a tractor seat. As yet, there’s no passenger’s seat. And it sits extremely low to the ground.
However, it’s not yet licensed.
“It’s not quite complete enough for that,” Peters said with a smile.
Another attraction was a 1933 vehicle with the moniker “Rat Trap,” owned by Daryll deSouza of Olds.
He called the vehicle A “PontiRat,” adding it was put together by a friend in Innisfail from "parts and pieces gathered for eight or nine years.”
Work on it began in 2013 and was completed in 2015.
