Town officials have some advice for you if graffiti is sprayed on your home or business.

Concerns about graffiti came to the fore after a graffiti spree occurred in Olds -- primarily in Uptowne -- April 17 and 18. Police are investigating the matter and would welcome your help if you saw anything suspicious there at that time.

Community services director Doug Wagstaff says the town has an information brochure on graffiti called  Graffiti - Tips for Discouraging Graffiti in our Community.

Monica Leatherdale, the town's communications co-ordinator, notes graffiti is addressed on page 13 sections 3.4 and 3.5 of the local community standards bylaw.

Section 3.4 says "no person shall place graffiti or cause it to be placed on any property."

Section 3.5 says, "no owner shall cause, allow or permit graffiti on their premises:

a. All graffiti shall be removed, painted over, or otherwise permanently blocked from public

view.

b. Within seventy-two (72) hours of becoming aware of the graffiti, the property owner

shall ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to minimize the duration and visual

impact of graffiti placed on their property."

Leatherdale says there are several products on the market to remove graffiti.

Wagstaff says it's the job of town operations staff to remove graffiti from town property.
