The Olds & District Chamber of Commerce is organizing a town hall meeting Aug. 21 at the Olds Legion.

Sponsored by the Town of Olds, the tentative theme for the breakfast gathering is Olds is Open for Business. Doors open at 7:30 a.m.

Both the chamber of commerce and Uptowne Olds Committee are encouraging their members to attend.

"We will be trying for a bit of a cross-section of three to five industries, telling their stories of what they see as progress, issues and concerns," Caroline Bodmer, the chamber's executive director, wrote in an email to the Albertan.

"We are crafting the program as to who may represent different sectors that carry a big impact to business vitality in our local economy," she added.

"We believe the lead-up to the election gives us reason to start the conversation around what issues and concerns are arising, so that all levels of our governments can improve the opportunity for business to both survive and thrive."

Plans also call for a town representative — likely Mayor Mike Muzychka — to give an overview of what's going on in the community and what's planned in the future, "along the lines of a State of the Union address, if you will," Bodmer wrote.
