OLDS — The Town of Olds and Mountain View County have agreed to extend the negotiating period for their Intermunicipal Cooperation Committee (ICC) agreement to Dec. 31 this year.
If more time is needed, those negotiations may extend into 2025.
The ICC agreement outlines how the two municipalities will share the cost of facilities and services utilized by residents of both, including recreation, fire, and libraries.
The ICC agreement is a provincially legislated document, established in 2016.
A news release issued by the Town of Olds on Thursday says extending the negotiation period will provide more time for administrative staff to gather and present information to the ICC committee, which is comprised of elected officials from both municipalities.
“Both organizations are committed to strengthening this long-standing partnership to ensure that the services and facilities that benefit our region and its citizens continue to be supported,” the release says.
“The partnership we have with Mountain View County ensures that our region thrives. Working together benefits us all,” Town of Olds Mayor Judy Dahl is quoted in the release as saying.
“This extension gives us the opportunity to build on our strong foundation and make decisions that benefit both our communities now and into the future.”
Mountain View County Reeve Angela Aalbers likes the idea of the extension.
“This extension reflects our commitment to ensuring that our collaborative efforts are both effective and mutually beneficial,” she said in the release.
“By taking this additional time, we will continue to strengthen our joint initiatives for the betterment of our communities. We look forward to continued cooperation and productive discussions with the Town of Olds.”
