OLDS — Town of Olds staff rescued a little kitten found in the town's drainage pipe.

Manager of operations Dale Rankel says staff received a call about the trapped feline in a storm sewer by Sobeys on Wednesday, Nov. 17.

Utilities department employees Brooke Langille and Mike Daley went to see if they could help free it.

“At first it seemed hopeless as they could see the little kitten way up the piping, cold and wet and shivering and could not get at it,” Rankel said via email.

“They worked tirelessly and then left some food out in hopes that it might try to come out and reported this back to me at lunch time.

“We were all thinking of what we could do for this animal. After lunch they went back, and Brooke got the idea (that) to save the kitten’s life she would flush it out. They tried it and it worked.

“They saved the little kitten’s life. She rescued the kitten, dried it, and told me that she will keep it or at least foster it till she finds it a home.”

It was not disclosed where in town the drainage pipe was located or on what day the incident occurred.
