Town of Olds worker Shelby Dezall attaches a chain to one of several damaged trees at the back of the Olds Elementary School playground so it can be removed. It’s believed the newly planted and mulched trees were vandalized some time between Friday, June 8 and Monday, June 11.

In the past few days, someone deliberately ran over several newly planted trees at the back of the Olds Elementary School playground.

Trees were smashed over and mulch was spread around in some places. Tire tracks could be seen. It looked to some like someone was doing doughnuts in the area as they ran over trees with a big vehicle.

Town employees could be seen Monday pulling out the damaged trees.

"The town is aware of the situation and police have been notified and are investigating," said Monica Leatherdale, the town's communications coordinator. "Once the police investigation is over, parks staff will assess the damage and cost of repairs."
