The Crown withdrew two charges against an Olds man related to an alleged credit card theft in May.

Kevin Leischner, 42, appeared in Didsbury court on Feb. 5 where he faced a charge of stealing a UFA Fuel Card and a second one for using it.

It was welcome news for his girlfriend, Sherilin Teasdale, who attended the proceedings with him, saying they would "keep on dealing with this junk until it goes away."

However, Leischner’s legal battles are far from over as he still faces a slew of outstanding charges and multiple court dates stemming from alleged incidents spread across different towns.

His lawyer Roy Shellnutt could not be reached to verify that the following charges and court dates, reported in the Olds Albertan on Jan. 7, have not changed.

After an alleged incident in Olds in March 2013, he was charged with three counts of possessing stolen property, illegal gun possession and violating a section of the Firearms Act concerning the storage, handling, transportation, shipping, display, advertising and mail-order sales of firearms and restricted weapons. Leischner is due in Didsbury court on Feb. 12 to answer these charges.

Following the alleged thefts of Olds businesses on June 14, July 2, Aug. 27 and Sept. 5 in 2013, Leischner was charged with four counts of breaking and entering.

Leischner was also charged with three counts of breaking and entering after alleged incidents in Innisfail in July and August 2013; and Spruce View, a hamlet about 20 minutes west of Innisfail, in September 2013. His court date for these charges was Jan. 7 in Red Deer.

On March 3, Leischner will appear in Didsbury court to answer one breaking and entering charge following an alleged incident in that town in October.

After his arrest on Oct. 28 in Sundre, Leischner faces charges of possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000, breaking and entering, possessing break-in instruments, two counts of theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000 and obstructing a police officer. He will answer these charges on Feb. 24 in Didsbury court.

None of these charges have been proven in court.

Despite his rap sheet, Teasdale, who says she’s known Leischner for five years, is convinced that he’s innocent.

"Kevin’s a good boy," she said.

Media reports of allegations against Leischner have hurt the rest of his family, she said as a tear rolled down her face.

She later added that public opinion has turned against the Leischners, whom Teasdale holds in high esteem.

"Absolutely, the family’s treated way differently now and it’s a shame," she said. "People just aren’t as friendly."
