Two people were killed in a single-vehicle collision near Olds Sunday morning (June 10).

The crash occurred at about 9:10 a.m. on Highway 2 at the Highway 27 overpass. Twelve Olds firefighters, along with members of the Didsbury RCMP were also on scene to assist.

A collision analyst was brought in to help investigate.

Emergency crews say the vehicle left the highway, hit the guardrail and ended up against the overpass.

According to the Olds Fire Department (OFD), there was a total of five occupants in the vehicle. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene and others were treated by ambulance personnel and taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

"Fire crews utilized hydraulic rescue tools to free some of the occupants of the vehicle," an OFD news release says.

It had been raining Sunday morning. At least five sirens could be heard as emergency vehicles raced to the scene.

Traffic was restricted to one lane each way as emergency crews dealt with the scene and as the investigation got underway.

The OFD says traffic "disruption" was "resolved" by 1 p.m. Sunday.
