OLDS - The Olds-based Apex Wolves U-15 Division 6 girls volleyball club team is off to national championships after recently qualifying at provincials in Edmonton.
The nationals are in Regina, Saskatchewan May 18-21. The team is busy with practices at Holy Trinity School these days in preparation for the big trip east.
In an interview during a break in practice last week, team captain Chelsey Black said the team is confident it will do well.
“It’s really exciting and a really big opportunity for us,” she said. “We are going to be well prepared.”
Asked what makes the team strong, she said, “Definitely the love. Most of us go to school together. We support each other as much as we can. We have a great attitude.”
Black’s mother Stephanie Crofts is also the team’s coach. She says the Wolves are a well-rounded squad that should do well in Regina.
“They work really hard,” she said. “They have worked very heard to get here. They are dedicated, strong young women.”
Olds has been a big supporter of the club team, she noted.
