OLDS – Police say provincial charges may be laid in connection with an incident in which an elderly man’s SUV crashed into a local furniture store on Thursday, Nov. 21.

The incident at Sim’s Furniture & Bedding at 5029 51 St., was reported at 3:47 p.m. that day.

Olds firefighters, ambulance personnel and RCMP responded.

“Upon arrival to the scene, it was observed that there was glass and debris all over the sidewalk in front of the building,” Staff Sgt. Warren Wright, the Olds RCMP commanding officer, said in a news release.

“The business’s large, storefront north-facing window was destroyed (and) there was a SUV situated five metres inside the building with many pieces of furniture around the vehicle, badly damaged.

Wright said the elderly male driver and sole occupant of the SUV was uninjured and “no other injuries within the scene were reported.”

“Olds RCMP are continuing their investigation into the collision, with potential provincial charges pending,” he wrote.
